FIRST LADY SANDRA ASKEW


A Special Message To
"Women of Faith"

Sandra Spratt Askew was born November 24, 1960, to Deacon Charley B. Spratt and the late Bernice Smith Spratt.  She is the twelfth child of fourteen children born to this union. As a child she was very involved in her church, St. James Missionary Baptist Church of Watson, Arkansas. The daughter of a Baptist deacon, she sang her first solo at the age of five titled, “I Got Shoes". Along with singing the praises of God, she also directed the choir, taught Sunday school, and served on the usher board.  She sang with the group, ”The Spratt Sisters,” which consisted of herself and six sisters. She was saved and baptized at the age of nine.

As a student, Sis. Askew was involved in numerous school activities: basketball, cheerleading, yearbook staff, the band and choir. She was voted Most Likely to Succeed by her peers and selected as the first runner-up for Miss Delta High.

 After graduating in the top 5% of her class from Delta High School in Rowher Arkansas, Sandra attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff for three years. She later completed her undergraduate degree at the University Of Memphis in 1990, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Marketing. She is presently working on her Masters Degree in Education at the University Of Memphis to be completed in 2003.


On August 1, 1982 she was joined in holy matrimony to Elder Gregory M. Askew, Sr. From this union was born five beautiful children: Shalunda, Shanae, Sylvia, Gregory, Jr., and Gary.

1st Lady Askew is presently a teacher at Whitehaven High School.  She teaches Marketing Education and is an advisor both DECA and the Fellowship of Christian Students. In 2002,
she was awarded the "Crystal Apple Teacher’s Award" after being nominated by her students.

Mrs. Askew now serves as the First Lady of Jubilee COGIC and loves her church dearly.
